After visiting over 30 countries, I can honestly say that the Faroe Islands are my favorite place on earth.
I first visited the Faroe Islands in 2023 and returned in 2024, excited to capture more of their wild beauty. It’s truly a photographer’s dream, especially if you’re into dramatic landscapes and moody weather.
I started experimenting with film photography in 2023, so I’m still super new at it, but it’s been an incredible way to document my travels.
For this trip, I shot with my Contax T3, my old Contax T2 (RIP!), and the Canon Sure Shot 80 Tele.
I tried a manual film camera, the Canon AE-1 Program and I don’t think I have ever returned something so fast. lol. It was SO HEAVY. There was no way a camera that heavy and fragile would work with my style of travel. Since then I have stuck with high quality point and shoots and have loved the results.
My go-to film stocks—Portra 400, Portra 800, Ektar 100 and Kodak Gold 200—handled the Faroese landscapes beautifully, from misty cliffs to cozy villages.
I did shoot some black and white film when I went in 2023 but have since stuck to color film.
Here are some of my favorite shots!
You’ll probably notice that it’s raining in a lot of the film photos I took there. I’ll be the first to admit, shooting film in the Faroe Islands is a bit of a gamble—the conditions are no joke. Let’s just say they get their fair share of storms, which means plenty of wind and rain! My Contax T2 struggled to focus in the rain while the Contax T3 didn’t miss.

My point and shoot film camera recommendations –
I have experimented with a lot of point and shoot film cameras since starting. I like traveling with a couple so I can shoot multiple film stocks at one location. Also, it’s always nice to have a backup incase one breaks.
Contax T2 – This is the camera most people I follow recommend. In a way I can see why, it is half the price as the Contax T3 and still takes great photos. I loved the Contax T2 a lot of my film came back blurry and I felt for a $1,000 film camera it was not worth it. So I returned it.
Contax T3 – This is by far the most expensive film camera I own and in my opinion, it is worth every penny. It has quite literally never taken a bad photo. Even in harsh conditions it never misses focus. Worth every penny I paid for it and would buy it again if it ever broke.
Canon Sure Shot 80 Tele – This is the cheapest film camera I own and honestly, it takes really good photos. I have tried a number of “cheap” under $100 point and shoot film cameras and they have all broke on me, except this one.
