Guide to Visiting Anna Maria Island, Florida

Bean Point Beach, Anna Maria Island, Florida

Anna Maria Island is a hidden gem on Florida’s Gulf Coast. It is located between the bigger cities of Tampa and Sarasota Florida (about an hour from each). This island is a hidden gem that combines old Florida charm with modern amenities. It features pristine beaches, charming shops, and delightful eateries, and all of them at a much cheaper price than similar destinations.

Seriously, this destination is seriously underrated and just might be your choice for your next Florida vacation.

Best Beaches on Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island is home to some of the best beaches in the United States (IMO and I’ve visited a lot). Below is a guide to my personal favorites!

1. Bean Point Beach (Best Beach on Anna Maria Island!)

Bean Point Beach is a little out of the way as it is located at the northern tip of Anna Maria island. It took us an extra 20 minutes to get there and finding parking wasn’t the easiest. There isn’t a dedicated lot, only street parking. Trust me though, it is worth the trouble! This was my favorite beach we visited on Anna Maria Island!

Overview: Situated at the northern tip of the island, Bean Point Beach is a secluded haven known for its serene atmosphere and breathtaking views. The only negative was that cell service was spotty (I know this is a perk for many people, but I’m not one of them).

Highlights: This beach is perfect for quiet walks, shell collecting, and watching the sunset. The wide, uncrowded shoreline offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. If you want bright turquoise water and blinding white sand come to Bean Point Beach.

2. Coquina Beach

Overview: Located at the southern end of the island (exact opposite of Bean Point Beach), Coquina Beach is a favorite among families and offers a range of amenities. This is one of the most popular beaches in the area.

Highlights: There are large parking lots, picnic areas, restrooms, and showers. With a full suite of amenities it’s perfect for a full day at the beach, though you should expect lots of other people. Even with lots of people there is still plenty of space. The Coquina Baywalk provides a scenic path through mangroves, perfect for nature lovers.

3. Manatee Public Beach

Overview: This beach is just north of Holmes Beach. This area though is one of the islands most popular spots as it is almost exactly where the main bridge to the island connects at.

Highlights: This beach features a café, volleyball courts, and a lively atmosphere. It’s ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and people-watching, making it a favorite for visitors and locals alike, and being able to walk to a lot of the island’s best restaurants and shops.

4. Holmes Beach

Overview: Centrally located, Holmes Beach offers a balance of tranquility and activity. The beach is big enough to accommodate the crowds, but this beach is a central hub right where the main bridge to the island connects. Directly off of this beach there is likely to be traffic, which can make park difficult.

Highlights: Even with the crowds there is still ample space and excellent amenities. It’s perfect for families. The gentle waves are great for kids, and nearby shops and restaurants add convenience.

5. Bradenton Beach

Overview: Stretching along the southern part of the island, Bradenton Beach is known for its vibrant community and beautiful coastline.

Highlights: The pier is a popular spot for fishing and sunset views. Nearby Bridge Street offers charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it a great place to mix beach time with local flair.

Exploring the Island

Pine Avenue: This picturesque street is lined with boutique shops, art galleries, and eateries. It’s perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll.

Anna Maria City Pier: A historic landmark, the pier offers stunning views and excellent fishing opportunities. A quaint café at the end serves fresh seafood with a view.

Rod and Reel Pier: Another beloved fishing and dining spot, Rod and Reel Pier has a laid-back vibe and serves delicious seafood with panoramic views.

Dining and Nightlife

The Sandbar Restaurant: Located right on the beach is perfect for a romantic dinner with your toes in the sand and offers beautiful sunset views.

The Beach Bistro: This restaurant is known for its gourmet cuisine and exceptional service, this restaurant is a must-visit for food lovers.

Ginny’s and Jane E’s Café: A quirky spot for breakfast or brunch, offering homemade pastries and a unique shopping experience.

Activities and Attractions

Kayaking and Paddleboarding: Explore the calm waters around the island with a kayak or paddleboard rental.

Fishing Charters: Whether you’re an experienced angler or a novice, fishing charters offer a fun way to spend the day on the water.

Bicycle Rentals: Rent a bike and explore the island at your own pace (highly recommended). The flat terrain and scenic paths and near nonstop views make for a pleasant ride.
